Volterra-Detroit Foundation International Studies Scholarships
The Volterra-Detroit Foundation recognizes the unique value of the international study experience in architectural education. International programs are life altering to the students and help fulfill the mission of the school of educating “socially responsible world citizens”. School of Architecture UDM is therefore pleased to offer the following scholarships for the students participating in the UDM SOA summer program in Volterra. The scholarships are awarded by the Volterra-Detroit Foundation. They were made possible by the generosity of the UDM SOA Alumni and other donors, who contributed funds for the Volterra International Residential College project in Volterra.
Peter Peirce International Studies Endowed Scholarship
($4,000 value)
Eligibility:
All UDM SOA students participating in the Volterra programs.
This scholarship has been established by Cherry Peirce to honor the memory of her husband, UDM School of Architecture Alumnus Peter Peirce, ‘83. Peter pursued his Masters Degree at the international program of the Syracuse University in Italy, overlooking the banks of the river Arno in Florence. While returning from the program, Peter’s life, along with 270 others, was taken in the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, on December 21, 1988.
Peter always planned to share his professional knowledge, his love for the world and inquisitive spirit through education. This scholarship will fulfill his dream by giving one exceptional UDM SOA student every year a life changing opportunity to study abroad. The scholarship (one per year) will be awarded to a student who demonstrates both outstanding academic achievement and significant financial need and will fully cover the residency fee for one student during the UDM SOA summer program in Volterra, Italy.
